The Tankcontainer and Flexitank Company”
, specialized in International Transport
of Loose Solid and Liquid Products,
was founded in Genoa in 1998 by Bartolomeo
Cassinelli, who treasured the brilliant
and extensive training passed down to
him by his father Aurelio, who greatly
contributed to the evolution of the
family enterprise in Milan.

comes from a century-old family tradition
in the maritime, shipping and insurance
sector; Ditta Ed. Canali fu Camillo"
(Canali son of the late Camillo) was
the name of the first company set up
in Genoa back in 1878 by his great-great
grandfather Edoardo Canali, afterwards
handed down to his grandfather Lionello,
Consul of Japan at that time.
Today "Canali Shipping 1878 S.r.
l." is a leader in the overseas
bulk transport sector thanks to an innovative
transport system: Isotankcontainer and
flexitank, that keeps up with the pioneering
spirit that has characterized the company
all along.
It all begins in the nineteenth century
when Edoardo Canali establishes the
maritime Insurance Companies: SAVOIA
- UNIONE CONTINENTALE - CASSA NAVALE
& D’ASSICURAZIONE, flanked by the
Steamship Company "LLOYD SABAUDO",
also founded by Edoardo Canali to coordinate
the Genoa, Turin and Milan branches.
Thanks to the experience achieved in
the shipping and insurance sector and
the development of the insurance division
for goods in transit, in the Thirties
the company obtains the “Committee on
general average” and becomes sole representative
for several prestigious Japanese, American
and Scandinavian insurance companies.
During the Sixties, Canali (by this
time a pioneer in Europe in tank container
intermodal transport) becomes one of
the world’s top shipping companies overseas.
In the Seventies it becomes top operator
in the Italian - Japanese multimode
transport sector thanks to the opening
of the “Transiberian Bridge".
The Transiberian Bridge links Japan
to Europe through the Transiberian railway;
the Kobe/Bologna route is covered in
a record time of only 19 days. During
the Eighties, “The Canali’s Company"
further consolidates its business becoming
representative of several leading companies
in the sector. At first, “Canali” aims
at the bulk market and specializes in
transportation of liquids and solids,
granules and powders. In the Nineties,
the company starts dealing with large
volumes.
"Canali Shipping 1878 S.r.l.” owns
an office in Milan, "Cassinelli
Bros", for the assessment
of damage for goods in transit, directed
by Lionello Cassinelli who is, also
in charge of the Tank and Flexitank
technical operating department.
